One of Trudell's methods was to have his clients committed to the
Clarke Institute for psychological evaluation.
The former Clarke Institute of Psychiatry is presently known as CAMH College Street site.
CAMH stands for Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Dr. Peter Collins
One of William Trudell's personal friends, Dr. Peter Collins worked there as a psychiatrist, who happened to be on the payroll of the RCMP. Their true objective was to obtain intelligence from the defendants, which could be used against them in court. Trudell openly tried to have his clients found not guilty by insanity, so they could potentially be kept infinitely locked away in an institution.
Bogus Therapy
In one case Trudell pushed for one of his clients convicted on weapons possession charges to be sent to Ontario Correctional Institute (OCI) in Brampton.
That facility specializes in treating addicts and sexual offenders.
The facility had no therapy suitable for weapons offenders. However Trudell agreed to a longer than usual sentence, so that “treatment programs” (which in fact didn't take place), could be completed. The real objective was to obtain more intelligence by psychiatrists, test than would have resulted in a regular prison.
